Getaway in Saintonge

This September, experience a two day escapade in Saintonge, in the heart of the Charente. Organized by our enthusiastic volunteers from Toulouseand Bordeaux, this trip takes you to discover two emblematic towns: Saintes and Rochefort. A concentrate of history, river landscapes and local crafts awaits you.

Saintes, the pearl of Charente's heritage, unveils its treasures on a journey combining culture and nature. This ancient Gallo-Roman city seduces with its architecture, verdant quays and peaceful atmosphere. You'll discover the prestigious maison de cognac Grosperrin, a veritable institution dedicated to old cognacs. Let yourself be surprised by the olfactory richness of these rare spirits and the expertise of the cellar masters.

Another highlight: a commented walk along the Charente River, to explore local biodiversity and the secrets of this waterway that has shaped the region's history. Cormorants, coypu and catfish populate this breathtaking natural setting.

The second day will take you to Rochefort, a city of history and maritime innovation. You'll visit the mythical Corderie Royale, a jewel of 17th-century industrial heritage. This 374-meter-long factory, designed for the royal navy, will plunge you into the world of rope-making thanks to an immersive and entertaining tour: manipulations, projections, optical theater...

After lunch on the banks of the Charente River, you'll enjoy a moment to stroll through this town with a rich naval past, between classical architecture and harbor ambience.
